Peter J.'s Story
Following graduation from Somers H.S. I completed my BA degree in Social Science. A short stint in the U.S. Army followed as a Communications Specialist. My lovely wife Erica and I married in 1972. We have two wonderful children, Siobhan and Peter, as well as three terrific grandchildren, Braeden, Callen and Chloe Jaye. In 1972, I started working for the N.Y.S. Dept. of Mental Hygiene. I then completed my Masters In Hospital Administration in 1975. After working for 34 years in Health Care/Hospital Administration, I retired in 2004, as New York State Director of Staff Development and Training for the Borough of Queens. In retirement, my wife and I have enjoyed traveling throughout Europe and the Caribbean. While living on Long Island, I worked as a volunteer with the Long Island Junior Soccer League for 23 years. I was in charge of the games committee, which served over 200,000 children on Long Island annually. Soccer soon became my new passion. From 1993 to 1996, I was also the general manager and coach of the Long Island Lady Riders in the U.S. Women's Professional Soccer League. In 1995 and 1997 we were the Unite...Expand for more
d States Women's National Champions. In 2003, I was inducted into the Long Island Soccer Hall of Fame. In 2005, I retired from all my soccer activities. In 2010, Erica and I moved to the eastern end of Long Island, to the lovely town of Cutchogue, where we built our new home. In the spring, summer and fall, the North Fork of Eastern Long Island is one of the nicest places anyone would want to live. We get lovely sea breezes and plenty of sunshine. Where we live, we are surrounded by over 50 vineyards and 5 minutes in any direction gets you to a beautiful sandy beach. It doesn't get any better than this. Retirement has been very good to us.
In the summer of 2016, my wife Erica and I were invited to join Eastern Long Island Hospital Foundation Board of Directors. It was an easy fit for us as we both have backgrounds in health-care. Working with the hospital's administration and staff is an enjoyable experience as everyone has been very professional.
My life has been a wonderful journey thus far and I look forward to many more wonderful times watching my grandchildren as they develop into fine young men and women.
