Peter's Story
Who would have thought that many of us who graduated in 67 are now at or nearing retirement age? I thought that happened to other people! I retired from my major career as a tree service after 30 years in the trade. I got through it with no injuries or hurt workmen. I started the profession in Dallas with the ice storm of 1979 New Years Day. Remember that one?
I have been self employed all my life. I pioneered the new outdoor activity of recreational tree climbing (Tree Climbers International). I took the tools and techniques used in the arborist profession and turned it into a sport. It is now worldwide. It¿s all about climbing any tree with a rope and harness for fun (including the redwoods). We start with 5 year olds. It¿s an empowering experience.
We teach regular people how to climb trees on their own or host tree climbing events like kids birthday parties, scout groups, etc. We also teach people how to start up their own tree climbing programs world wide. Find out more using the subject tree climbing or Google my name Peter Treeman Jenkins. We¿ve been in a lot of major publications and national TV s...Expand for more
hows. Tree climbing seems to bring back a lot of childhood memories and it¿s something that often draws media attention. To date (26 years) there have been no accidents or injuries related to this activity.
My other business is tree inspections. Atlanta is the most heavily forested major city in America. I would guess there are 25 time more trees in Atlanta than Dallas, and very large trees too! I inspect trees for health and risk potential. My specialty is biomechanics (the science of how a tree stays standing) and risk assessment. I am a certified arborist and kid at heart that still loves trees and tree climbing. Do a search under tree inspections to get useful information on what to look for in a dangerous tree.
I do a lot of photography (trees, nature, and tree climbing) and am an aspiring podcaster (my newest interest). I enjoy public speaking on the subject of trees, tree care, and of course tree climbing. I give presentations to garden clubs and outdoor groups.
I am married with no children. My wife Patty is my business partner. We are both avid birders and we both read a lot on varied subjects.
