Peter's Story
When I was in High School, I wanted to be a French teacher when I grew up. My family thought that was a great idea, since my heritage was French and all of my grandparents were French-speaking. Although I majored in French and Education in college I ended up doing something completely different.
Most people I knew in high school did not know that I was musically talented; I sang and played several instruments. Beginning at 20 years old I did piano bar entertainment part time and played in bands on weekends while working my other full time jobs. I also have been involved in church music since I was 16.
After college I worked for the Westfield Evening News as an Advertising Manager. Then in 1976 I moved to Virginia Beach, VA and worked for the Christian Broadcasting Network for several years in computer operations; I also worked for a large non-denominational church there as Minister of Music. hotel business in the 1980's, and have been in Hotel Management since 1986.
I've been in the Virginia Beach area for most of the past 30+ years, but I did move back to Massachusetts for four years where I was Executive Assistant Manager of Cranwell Resort in Lenox from 1987 - 1991. I also moonlighted in the Music Room lounge doing the piano bar entertainment at Cranwell on weekends while there.
I survived a freak, major brain stem stroke in 1998 at 46 years old; I was hospitalized for more than three months in Charlotte, NC. After being told that I would never walk or work again,I beat one in ten thousand odds and made a 98% recovery through a combination of faith and sheer hard work in physical therapy. I returned to work and to a normal life 4 months after the stroke.
