How can so many years be condensed into a few sentences? Foothill to San Diego State University was the beginning of my education. Spending the better part of a year traveling overland to Mexico and Central America filled the time from the mid-sixties to the early seventies. Dennis Guest (class of '65) was my room mate at SDSU. Mike Rackstraw (class of '64) was one of my traveling cohorts for our Latin America road trip. Twenty dollars in my pocket and no job prospects upon crossing the border. Secured a job with a kelp processing and microbial fermentation company in San Diego (Kelco). Extended educational opportunities provided by Merck at MIT, University of Wisconsin, Madison and University of Minnesota cemented my career in the field of fermentation.
