Peter's Story
Went to boot camp in September of 1974. (Coast Guard)
Served aboard a ship out of Chesapeake Bay and a ship out of San Francisco Bay.
Served my last two years running rescue boats out of Cape Disappointment lifeboat station. (Columbia River bar)
Left the service in May of 1979
Moved to Portland, OR in October of 1979, where I worked running a push boat on the Willamette River.
Left Portland in 1988 and started working on ocean going tug boats. I worked as an able-body seaman for about a year and then worked as Chief Mate for about 2 years. I started shipping out as Master in 1992. Most of the work that I do is towing barges up and ...Expand for more
down the west coast of the continental US, Canada, and Alaska and up into the Bering Sea. and across the Pacific to Hawaii and ports in the central Pacific.
I got married in April of 1979 to the former Karla K. LeClaire of Seaview, WA. Karla and I own and operate a bookstore at the Port of Ilwaco, that we opened in May of 2000. (WE own it, SHE operates it!)
When I'm not out to sea, I spend my time working on my house, doing woodworking, working on one of my Broncos, and RVing with my wife and dog.
Both my wife and I retired on January 01, 2023. Now we are just taking it easy in Long Beach, WA when we aren't traveling in our RV.
