Peter's Story
College.
Well, I went back East for college. I wanted to spread my wings and the school I attended had one of the best Asian Studies library in the States. It is in the middle of New York State where it is more like Yosemite than NYC. It was one of the most beautiful college campuses that I have ever seen. We actually have water falls right on campus and a draw bridge spanning across it. In the spring when the snow melts and the water cascades, we would go down the falls and duck behind the water and find a secret hiding place that was great to impress a date.
We had a real diverse group of kids from all over ...Expand for more
the world. It was not one of those snobbish 'Eastern' schools. We had a Agriculture college, a Hotel school, architectural college, and even a department of Home Economics. There were about 30 Asian kids in my class, they were still dealing with integration back than. My freshman dorm mate was Maurice Page, a black kid from MD, the first member of his family ever gone to college. I am pretty sure the school roomed us together because they did not quite know what to do with us minorities, don't get me wrong, I was well treated. Maurice and I became an odd couple and choose to be room mates during our junior year.
