Peter's Story
Life
From Carey to Georgetown University's School of Foreign Service, then to the University of Michigan Law School, one year remaining in Ann Arbor with the woman who would be my first wife, then 26 years in private practice with a law firm (when I joined it in 1976, I was the 4th attorney in the firm; it never grew too large and now has about 15 lawyers with whom I don't keep contact) and then to a job which I enjoy very much since 9/4/02: general counsel with an old client. On my 3rd marriage: commenced 1991, lasting the rest of our lives. I read a lot: NYT, WSJ, Foreign Policy, Foreign Affairs, Harpers, the Altantic, books (almost all non-fiction; almost all history; most military history). I am a big U of M football fan and from August through December that's my biggest interest. I am still a Houston Astros fan, still waiting for one World Series WIN (yes they made the 2005 World Series but fell short, having won their first playoff series in 2004). If you become enough of a fan of the game and of the team, every loss is heartbreaking.
College
I wanted to stay in the NE Corridor, so I went to Washington DC (the Edmund A. Walsh School of Foreign Service [I graduated with a Bachelor of Science i...Expand for more
n Foreign Service). Thought I'd run into different people than the people with whom I went to high school. For the most part, a great education, great people. I wish I could have been more social but I since have found out why I wasn't (clinical depression). I go to the reunions in DC every 5 years. People really don't change that much.
Law School
I was admitted to the University of Michigan Law School and graduated in the Class of 1975, J.D., cum laude. Michigan was a terrific place and I keep in contact with a number of friends I met there.
Workplace
I was an associate from 1976 to 1980 and a partner from 1980 to 2002 at the firm now known as Carson Fischer, P.L.C. in Birmingham, Michigan.
In 2002 I left to become general counsel to a former client of the firm, Atlantic Management Corp. It is a diversified practice involving real estate, human relations, coordinating outside counsel, etc. Unfortunately, the owner of the company began to liquidate his holdings, and it was time to start my own practice.
So I have left and on May 12, 2008, I opened my own solo practice of transactional commercial real estate law, WANGER PLC. I work out of my home and I'm concentrating on building a practice.
