Peter's Story
Life
My Family
I met my wife, Phyllis, when I was in graduate school and she was a senior at Adelphi University. My mother, who was the secretary in Adelphi's Psychology Department, introduced us...and now it's been over 43 years.
In June 1968, I started working for the US Army Corps of Engineers as an economist, and four weeks later Phyllis and I were married. Now, after 42 years, we're still married, and I'm still working for the Corps, so I must be doing something right!
Over the years, we moved out west, we embraced Christianity (Phyllis and I were both raised Jewish), and we adopted our son, Jonathan -- the apple of our eyes. I'm now in the Catholic church, and I've found the spiritual home I was looking for.
Now, I plan to spend more time Doing Other Stuff, primarily spending time with my family and doing art. (If you're curious, you can see some of my more recent work in the "My Photos" area of my page on Facebook.)
What else?...oh, yeah: coffee. I live on the stuff, and I'm picky: I grind the beans and brew it fresh. (My coffee mug -- you can see it in "Photos" -- is my personal trademark; I've had it for some 30 years.)
My Pets
We'...Expand for more
ve had quite a few over the years: dogs, cats, turtles, a parakeet, canaries, fish...not necessarily all at the same time, you understand. Over the years, we'd settled down to just one cat, Rocky, a ginger shorthair who came to us as a stray kitten, and was our son's companion as he's grown up. Rocky has now passed away, at a good old age...over 18. But I guess we're cat people to the end: we now have two rescued Siamese-mix kittens, Chiefie and Miss Kitty. There are also several neighborhood cats who frequently drop by for a meal -- cats always know a soft touch when they find one. :)
My Job
Since 1968 I've been an economist with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, involved in water resources planning. Now, I'm the senior economist with the Corps' Southwestern Division office in Dallas, Texas, providing coordination and economic oversight for Corps water resources planning activities in the south-central US. I've enjoyed working for the Corps of Engineers over the years, in Washington, DC, New York City, Albuquerque, and Fort Worth. I retired at the end of 2010, and returned as a temporary reemployed annuitant to assist them with the transition.
