Phil's Story

It seems like high school was an eternity ago. After high school I went into the Air Force as an avionics specialist. My first assignment was in an air rescue squadron in Missouri. I then went to Alconbury, England which is a small community about 25 miles west of Cambridge. I was assigned to an aggressor squadron which is the Air Force's version of top gun. It was a pretty cool assignment and I had the opportunity to travel throughout Europe and visit most of the countries there. I then went to Prescott, Arizona where I finished my B.S. in professional aeronautics. Even though I didn't do what I considered very well in high school, it seemed like college was much easier; go figure. I then went to Tuscon, Arizona where I completed an M.S. in Aviation Management. I had spent 10 years in the Air Force and then took on a new career with, at the time, McDonnell Douglas Astronautics Company which later became Boeing Military Aircraft. I started and completed my second Master's degree with an MBA in International Business with a concentration in finance. Again, I only mention my college time because it was the the last thing I thought I would ever do after completing high school. By this time, I had been married and had two sons. I had gotten married pretty much right after high school and stayed married for 21 years. That didn't end very well. It wasn't really a good experience but I did come out of the deal with two great sons whom I'm very proud of and today are doing very well. I got re-married a second time about 16 years ago to a great lady. She's an attorney and also the general counsel for a large law firm here in St. Louis. We've been alot of places around the world and in the U.S. and we've really been happy. I wish I'd had met her 21 years earlier. I also have a daughter whom...Expand for more
I'm also very proud of. She lives close to us, as do our sons, and I have three grand daughters. I can't believe I'm old enough to have grand children. I am hopefully going to end up with another grand "something" with which I'm sure will turn out to be terriffic. I've been here at Boeing for 31 years and work in their research and development division. I can't really say too much about it except that it's really been a cool job. It looks like our lives are about to make another change as we prepare to possibly move to Denver. It's beem a little stressful with renting our house in St. Louis and trying to find a new home, church, exercise facility etc. in Denver. Another challenge is that I would end up retiring much earlier than I thought but I'm sure I'll be able to find something to occupy my time. I enjoy hunting, fishing and shooting and have a great lab who loves to hunt. I'm sure there must be something to hunt in Colorado. Most importantly, we found a great church. It has about 10,000 members. I'very realized that there's a lot more to life than what we see and do here. We're not wealthy but I'll say pretty comfortable. I've been able to have most anything I wanted but have come to realize that in the end, it's all just "stuff" and doesn't really make you happy. Strange how I always thought it would. I have several close friends, you know, the kind you can call night or day and they are there---invaluable. All in all I'm pretty blessed and happy. Well, that's pretty much been the short version of what I've been doing these past years. Hopefully, someone will remember me and try to contact me. Even if not, I hope everyone I knew is doing well and maybe I'll be able to see them again some day. My parents and brother still live in Gretna so you never know. All the Best, Phil
