Phil's Story
Hello everyone,
Actually I never graduated from St. Eds. The folks moved to California senior year. But since I'm still friends with many good people from your alma mater I still feel connected somehow to the school and to Elgin, my home town. Went to San Jose State, later Peace Corps Liberia (when it was crazy and fun and peaceful, and before it went insane and violent and tragic) taught school in California for several years. First job at a Catholic school no less. Had to brush up on some prayers but a delightful place to work. Then more years in public scool. Got restless, moved to Mexico, got married at 43 to a lovely Mexican lady. We have 3 kids: 14, 11, 7. No retirement in sight. Teach at the Ameician School of Puerto Vallarta.
It may be cruel but I've indoctrinated my kids to be Chicago sports fans. In our home there is no difference between The Cubs and Sox. We suffer equally with both. Bears, Bulls, Blackhawks.

ities in Mexico, other communities remain quite normal and peaceful. Thank God Puerto Vallarta is still one of them. So here we are and here we'll stay. But who knows the future?
There's a softball league here that plays 11 months a year. I wish my bones hurt less but I still play.

Addendum: 2020, year of the virus
Kids growing, I am Medicare eligible, election coming, wearing masks, teaching on line, hoping parents can afford tuition, my kids root for Mexico when USA and Mexico play, visited Elgin for a funeral it is a lovely town. Quit playing softball, tired of paying chiropractor for injuries incurred, my son loves rap, Why? I don’t know. Saw some old friends in Elgin, laugh, laugh, laugh, would like to bring family to visit Elgin but $ tight. I am paid in pesos 25 pesos to 1 US dollar. Goes so fast. Born in 1955, year of polio vaccine, hopefully we’ll see a Covid 19 vaccine soon.
