Phil's Story

I do miss the autumn in Catoctin, on the Blue Ridge, and the Shenandoah Valley. It used to be lovely in Mont. Co. In the '60s as well. Many of the beautiful places have been built over. It's happening here in Lincolnshire as well. Time moves on. We are having a very, very wet and cool autumn. Predictions are for heavy snow in our region this winter. We usually do not get heavy snow. Even the North Sea and environs (us) are warmed by the Atlantic currents. For instance in SW England (Cornwall) palm trees grow along the coastal areas. My God loves you all, I love you all. Go love, laugh, eat, drink, make merry and be happy. Give freely of what you have and receive thankfully what you have been given. Pax Just four miles from here on the river Head was a series of shore births where the Romans used to haul out the ships for overhall after voyages from Rome. After the overhaul they proceeded up the Humber to Lincun (Lincoln). This area of the Britannic midlands was ruled by the Corieltauvi, all...Expand for more
ied with the Catuavellauni and the Iceni (of Boadicea fame). Twenty miles south is Louth, an old corruption of a lon-n-n-g celtic name meaning "fortress of the God Luge", the celtic God of human endeavors. Under Roman rule Louth became a Saxon stronghold. The Saxons were originally imported by Rome and paid as coast watchers and mercenaries. On Kirmington Hill, directly NW of Louth, over 800 Saxon Burials have been found. After the Romans left Britain the Saxons consolidated power and the surrounding area, with most of Lincolnshire, became the Kingdom of East Lyndsey. I'm just skimming over a lot of lot of local history. It is fascinating to me; perhaps not as much for you. I regularly walk the banks of the Lud and have found neolithic (new stoneage knife blades, arrowheads, loom weights, scrapers, axe and hammer heads, etc. This is all on the edges of plowed fields bordering the river valley. My eyes are getting weary and my tumbler of Irish has run dry. Please stay safe and share your love.
