Phil's Story
Life
When I graduated I worked with my dad in the rental business in so city (Hank's), worked at Dudley Perkins Harley Davidson, got the Harley bug, rode like a madman. Moved to Atherton, Harley got stolen, moved to Oregon. Came back to marry Mary Merellas from El Camino high, went back to Oregon. Bought a house in Portland, moved to Tigard, had a boy there (not me dummy, Mary), moved to Phoenix, had another boy, moved in Phoenix area 2 more times, moved to Las Vegas, moved to Pahrump. I'm gonna die before I move again, because I just don't want to move any more. Preferred working with people in a sales situation more than anything else, so I stayed in the equipment rental field in Oregon, Arizona and Las Vegas. All the while I played with VW's (my all time favorite hobby). Ended up buying a 1960 VW camper bus and sold it for a big bag of cash and started my own VW parts & service business called Doghouse Repair. Told my bosses to shove it 14 months later. our county & the only one in Nevada that sells online (doghouserepair.com). In May 09 Doghouse will be 14 years old. My wife (of 32 years) has been a housewife for most of the time and I've been able to work out of my house & be home with her and my sons. In December 06 I started another business, doghouseengines.com, where I market the custom VW engines I build. My oldest son, Mark lives in our town & runs Jim's Plumbing. My youngest son, Ryan lives with us & designs/administers my websites, helps run Doghouse Repair & is the engineer for Doghouse Decals, another company we formed for producing & installing vinyl decals. My wife Mary has MS which has progressed slowly but steadily for many years, so she stays pretty close to home, but is actively involved in the local MS society chapter. Mary helps out Doghouse by answering phones & monitoring e-mails. She had corrective surgery on her spine in December 06 and recovered very well. Now I have a girl English Bulldog as a shop buddy. Her name is Wrinkles.
