Philip's Story

After graduating from Blair in '66, I studied at M.I.T., where I received my undergraduate degree in Electrical Engineering and graduate degrees in Civil Engineering. In 1975, I moved to take a faculty position in the Dept. of Civil Engineering at the University of Toronto (Canada), where my main areas of teaching and research were environmental and risk assessments, project evaluation and waste management. At the university, I served in a number of administrative positions, including Chair of the Division of Environmental Engineering and on the University's Governing Council. I retired at the end of 2011. In addition to my work at the university, I served on a number of advisory bodies to governments and the pr...Expand for more
ivate sector. I met my wife in 1967 (she was a student at Boston University), got married in 1970, and raised a son and a daughter. Update just before the reunion: After retiring, we did major downsizing, sold our house in Toronto and a year ago (Sept 2015) moved White Rock, a beach town on the beautiful coast of British Columbia, just north of the US border. Over the years, we have traveled a lot and lived in a number of very lovely and interesting places, including 6 months in Laos (with a trip to Tibet and Everest), 3 months in Barcelona, 6 weeks in Istanbul, 2 winter months in Lisbon for four consecutive years, and for the past 12 years we have spent 2-3 months on the Amalfi coast of Italy. Life is good.
