Philip's Story
Life
After leaving HS joined USAFR; served 1958 -> 1962. As an active reservist was able to work & continue my education while completing my service obligation. Was activated for the Cuban missile crisis for 6 months but fortunately JFK got us through it. I married in June of 1961, we just completed our 44th wedding aniversary. Have 5 children and 8 grandchildren; number 9 is on the way. Graduated from DeVry Tech in 1962 with an associates degree in electronics engineering. Started working for Halicrafters and determined this wasn't for me. Became interested in data processing, went to school leaving Halicrafters and started working for Spiegel in their DP department. onsultant. GTE decided to move their headquarters to Dallas, TX area in 1984 so I decided to join them as an employee. Stayed with them for 17yrs. Retired after GTE and Bell Atlantic merged to form Verizon. The greatest opportunity I had with GTE is when I was sent to Brussels Belgium (06/1994 - 08/1997) to help start up a new directories company. Lived there for 3 years and was able to see many parts of Europe. When the Brussels contract ended I was reassigned to Dallas area office and we decided to stay in the area; for now anyway. Retired 04/2001 and since then joined AARP as a TAX-Aide volunteer. I also work for Jackson-Hewitt during tax season. I have a TX real estate license which is currently inactive.
