Philip's Story

See my timeline.I entered thr corporate world after my 4 years in the Navy, I joined and entered boot camp,Aug 4, 1969, 45 days after graduation. I went to school for Nuclear Sub force in New London, Conn and was 1st stationed in Charleston SC That was before the interstate highways were completed. The 1st Nuclear Ballistic Submarine I qualified on was the Lafayette SSBN616, I completed 11 patrols living below oceans surface from 90 to 120 days on 3 seperate Subs, spending time when surfaced living in Rota,Spain, and was able to travel to alot of Europe, Greece,Italy, France, crossed the Gilbrator to Morroco Then transferred to Holyloch,Scotland, spent time at the Highland Games at Dunoon,Crossed the Loch to Glasgow,Edenbourgh,a little England .On the Lafayette , during a patrol, we surfaced on the North Pole, nothing but ice as far as you could see, a far way from home Hazlet. I remember coming home on leave in 1970 and we they installed a flashing stop light at the corner of Middle Rd & Poole Ave. The 1st one we had.I lived close to the Esso gas station there, As a kid, My mom would send me to get milk out of the machine, I think it was 25 cents. Once I got out of the service, I moved back to the Hazlet area for a few years working for ROMA FOODS, a "family" business my mother and "Uncle Louie" Piancone started in Keansburg that grew and grew. I tended bar in Keansburg at a place called "The Olde Tymer" took a few years of business and finance and started in collection at "The Investors" in Freehold. From there one thing led to another over the next 20+yrs transferring around most of the country, living in places like Charleston,SC, New London, Conn., Kansas City, O.K. City, Biloxi...Expand for more
, Ms., Denver,NewOrleans,Tampa/Clearwater,Fl, Bucks county,Pa, Jackson, Ms and settling down in the Atlanta area since 1985. since here lived in Suwanee, Cumming and currently Sugar Hill in N. Ga. by Lake Lanier. I have three sons,36,19&17 two grandchildren. I just celebrated a 20th wedding anniversay with Pam, a Georgia native. I did well in business achieving Vice President with ITT at age 32, moved to Ford Motor Credit and then retiring in 1998 as a SVP in the mortgage industry. My early retirement was due to having Multiple Sclerosis. I was diagnosed in 1990 and after eight years could no longer work as the disease to this day is prgressing limiting my everyday abilities.I also have been lucky in many ways, meeting a varity of people from everywhere, and my fond memories of growing up in Hazlet. Remember when Sunray Drugs burnt down at Airport Plaza, or when they would spray for mosquitos and the Holy Family Fairs, Middle Road before they paved it,they would drop a wet tar and then pebbles and you would get it on your cars as you packed it down, the auction on Poole Ave accros from the A&P I use to buy Dessert Boot shoes there, Wetsons Burgers, the only movie was the Strand in Keyport or the infamous Drive-in,sneaking in friends in the trunk of your car, our 1st real love, Regina Smith (70)was mine.. Oh the good old days. I may go on in a blog one day, all these things and many more made us all who we are. If anyone knows how I can get a copy of a 1969 yearbook, I would be greatful. Lost mine when the Pearl River flooded while living in Jackson, Ms. Under my yearbook picture it read: "Ever a Rover, Loving, Laughing and Free" Go figure! Best to all. GOD BLESS AMERICA !!
