Phyllis's Story

Hello all from class of 1958. I have been married for 48 hours and have 4 children, 2 boys and 2 girls, and 3 granddaughters ages 8, 13, and 17, and 2 grandsons ages 14 and 15. We had 4 miscarriages before we had our first child (a daughter, and then went on to have a son, another son and a daughter 5 years after our youngest son. I have worked at Bath Iron Works in Bath, Maine for a couple of years and then took a medical terminology course and have worked as a medical secretary/unit coordinator and then at a pyschiatric hospital in Portland, Maine. We live in Brunswick, Maine right down the street from Bowdoin College, and it is a very nice town. For the past 12 years I worked for a brain injury program affiliated with Goodwill of Northern New England, and now have been working at home for 8 years as a medical transcriptionist, 7 of those years for a transcription company in Portland, Maine and now I work from home for a transcription company in Burlington, MA. I would imagine that you remember that I am a twin and would like to tell you that my wonderful sister, Carol, died in 1992 fro...Expand for more
m alcohol abuse and I really miss her as she as my best friend, and she then was diagnosed with bipolar disorder and obsessive compulsive disorder, and put her two children (a boy and a girl - 9 years apart in age) and her husband, through a very bad time. Her husband found another woman he had known in high school (purely by accident) and they have been together for approximately 14 years now, but do not live together. She is a wonderful person and she did have some issues when she first met me that due to the fact that my sister and I had been very close, that I would not accept her, and my brother-in-law told me this so I wrote her a letter to explain that as much as I loved my sister I also loved her family and was very happy that Jack was now happy and had someone in to share his life with, and she really was not a nice person at times, but for some reason she was never not nice to me. Well there is more to this story but that is all for now. Hope to hear from some of you soon to see what you have been up to over all the years since graduation. Regards to all, Phyllis A. Mahoney (Scott)
