Phyllis's Story
1976 to 2015 - it's been an incredible ride. After graduating from the University of Rochester, I headed to the west coast and attended UC Berkeley for graduate studies. Over the last 45 years (really!) I've been happily married, had a son, and lived in Berkeley,California; Eugene, Oregon; Queretaro, Mexico, Tucson, Arizona; Chicago,Illinois and now Portland, Oregon where we intend to stay put! After teaching math for a number years, I recognized my true talent was teacher training and became an independent math education consultant. I love my work and have traveled all over the country. I have a passion for searching out and exploring archeological ruins, which is a good since my husband is an archeologist and we're most often trecking through some jungle in Mexico or Central America or desert in the southwest. I still love baseball, although I have to admit I've switched allegiance from the NY Mets to the Seattle Mariners.
As I look at and work with teachers all over the country, I realize how lucky we all were. And the fact is we can be proud of how much the town of Bethpage supports education. Bethpage High is in the minority - a school that helps students achieve and provides them with academic and social skills they will need in college and beyond.
