Sarada's Story
You knew me under the name of Phyllis Winson. I've been called Sarada (accent on the first syllable) and have been using it exclusively for nearly 50 years now. My name now is Sarada Winson George.
I'm still folk dancing, as I was in high school and have also been involved in Balkan singing for almost that long. When I'm not dancing or singing, I work at the science library at the University of Rochester (Rochester, NY) .
Craig, my husband of 40 years, died of lung cancer in February 2017, after a year of returned illness. He's been gone for two years now and I'm still putting my life back together, with help from my children, communities, and friends. work is one of the stable parts of my life and I depend upon it, along with my folk activities and involvement in the Jewish community.
I have a grown daughter in Boston, who works at Harvard and lives in Dorchester, MA, with two friends.. I have a grown son in Connecticut who is married and has a preschool age son and three older stepsons. He and his wife both work in computer technical sales, in the same company.
I went to our 50th reunion last May and was delighted to see a number of classmates I remembered. I hope there will be other gatherings in future, whether as an official reunion or something much less formal. It helps to have something to connect you to your past sometimes, especially when everything else has been in upheaval.
