Pilar's Story
Although I'm Class of 80, I didn't graduate from Battery Creek. After 10th grade, I moved to Hawaii and graduated there and went on to a community college. In 82, I moved to Tennessee, attended the U of M, dropped out and got married to a musician in 85. We had a son, Simon, now 22. I've since been divorced, had a slew a dead end jobs, and am currently a single mom, raising my beautiful 6 year old son, Seth George. I'm still a Led Zeppelin freak and enjoy watching movies (especially comedies w/ Jack Black). Seth and I did see "The Spiderwick Chronicles" on Valentine's Day. It was good!
My memories of Battery Creek are somewhat bittersweet w/ the death of one of my friends, Allen Green. I'll always remember his olive drab army jacket and that he hated the song, "Lay Down Sally", by Eric Clapton. We shared a flunky biology class together as well as home room. t there were also fun times... gathering at the smoking area, hanging out in the field behind the school, skipping school w/ the help of Randy Gimple's station wagon!! And of course, "The Great Santini". I bought that movie on DVD and it's fun to look back on that and see certain Beaufort/Parris Island landmarks as well as the students who were extras in the basketball scene (Claudette Evans, Abercrombie, etc.). My mom still has her picture w/ Robert Duvall at the Marine Corps Birthday Ball!! My dad was in the Marine Corps 30-plus years and retired a Master Gunnery Sargent. He just turned 79! I wish I had my yearbook! It's been buried all these years in my parents attic. I know there's a few pics of me... one in math class, one in the French club, one in the sophomore section w/ a bad perm growing out and my fave pink shirt !!
Anyway, it would be great to hear from old friends and/or classmates!
