More about Prentiss:"I'm Prentiss Davis and I live in Chesterfield County Virginia with my beautiful wife Helen.
I was born in New Orleans Louisiana and lived there with my mother in my grandfatherâs home until I was seven years old. My grandfather died when I was seven and not long afterward, my father returned from Germany where he had been serving in the US Army. During the next year we lived in Georgia and Texas before returning to New Orleans.
When I was twelve my mother married a man who lived in Connecticut and we moved there where I would live until I was 27 years old. My stepfather worked at Pratt & Whitney Aircraft and my mother was with Southern New England Bell Telephone. I first lived in and attended school in Seymour Connecticut and later The Catholic school in Derby. In 1955 we moved to Wallingford where I attended Moses Beach elementary and graduated from Lyman Hall High School.
Growing up, I spent much of my time outdoors fishing, playing baseball and ice hockey. After high school, I attended Southern Connecticut State College while working full time.
In my early teens I worked as a caddy at Wallingford Country Club. Later jobs included working at Milton's Army Navy and The Wallingford Car Wash. At sixteen, I began working as a truck driver and warehouse man at Connecticut Bearings, an auto parts wholesaler. This soon led to a job in the parts department at Valenti Chevrolet in Wallingford. Soon the owners offered to send me to the General Motors training center in New York to learn management. About this time I became interesting in drag racing and bought a new Chevy for that purpose. My life was filled with working at Valenti and drag racing until 1963 when I took a summer job at Pratt & Whitney as a lathe operator. After three month, I accepted a job as a salesman for Aar...Expand for more
onson Brothers Paper Co, a printing paper jobber in Brooklyn NY where I worked until I received my draft notice in November. I had sold my race car in late summer. The Army decided it didnât want me until April so I took a job at Jackson Chevrolet in Middletown CT until then.
In the Army, I trained at Ft Dix NJ as an infantry communications specialists. Returning home, I first accepted a job at the phone company but instead began driving a tractor trailer truck for United Parcel Service. Shortly afterwards, the owner of Valenti Chevrolet invited me back and I returned to work there and also resumed my classes at Southern Connecticut State. Eventually, I was recruited by Partyka Chevrolet, a new Chevy dealership in Hamden CT where I worked until moving to California in July 1970. During these years my free time was consumed with drag racing, motorcycles, socializing and travel. I dated the same young woman from with some time outs from 1962 to 1970.
After leaving Connecticut, I spent a month in New Orleans and visited my father and his family in San Antonio Texas. I eventually settled in Huntington Beach CA and went to work at the local Chevrolet dealership. After a few months, I took a job at Savin Business Machines in Carson CA as a copy machine salesman. My neighbor at this time was sales manager for International Playtex and he soon offered me a lingerie sales job which I accepted. I was at Playtex for four years and during this time I met and married my first wife. In 1974 I was recruited by Maidenform and worked there for eight years. During this time I bought my house in Newport Beach, divorced my first wife and remarried. I later worked as sales manager for The Bali Co. and was working as sales manager at Wacoal when my second marriage ended. Leaving Wacoal, I began working for I. Appel where I was employed for ten years. In 1995 my job at I. Appel ended and I became a salesman at Guess Athletic Footwear. This eventually led to a position at HYI where I sourced private label footwear in China.
In 2001, while working at HYI I met my wife Helen and soon moved to Truckee CA near Lake Tahoe in The Sierra Mountains.
I continued in the footwear business until 2005 when I began selling real-estate in Truckee, North lake Tahoe California. In 2010 I was licensed to instruct driver education and operated a driver ed school in Truckee until moving to Virginia.
My hobbies continue to involve automobiles and motorcycles and I remain an avid reader of books and periodicals, mostly concerning history and biography.".
