Judy's Story

Updated 6/13/09 I graduated from Pacific with a bunch of really wonderful people in 1960 and would love to hear from anyone from the classes of '58,'59, '60 or '61. Just to avoid confusion ... or MORE confusion ... I recently joined the SBHS site because I had many friends there, including most of those who attended Sturges with me. However, at SB there was ANOTHER "Judy Price" and we looked a little similar, too. To lessen the confusion at that time, we both started going by our first and middle names: Judy Ann (me) and Judy Lynn (her). I lived mostly in Auburn, Ca., in the Sierra Foothills since 1969. I attended SBVC right after high school, then Sac. State and later USC. I also did crazy things like drive drag racers (in the early 60's), trained and showed horses and traveled a lot while working for the race car production company and then while promoting rodeos and other special events. I also worked in broadcasting (on and off the air), public relations, guided RV tours through Mexico and Alaska, and did a lot of writing for TV, radio, magazines, newspapers and special event and instructional brochures. I was also in real estate (ugh!). However, the most fun I've had was living on Mission Bay in San Diego for nearly 10 years and working for the San Diego Padres Baseball Team. I also loved riding my bike, playing tennis, golf, walking and swimming, plus needle crafts, reading and drawing (never went anywhere without my sketch book). In 2001 I left my job with the Padres and returned to Auburn to care for my Mom who had Alzheimer's. I got a nice motorhome because it was the only way I could get away and take her with me. Since she passed away, I've been "re-inventing" myself. I sold my house and moved into the motorhome. I had big plans to see as much of our beautiful country as I could. I've been divorced since 1991 and I'm retired. When I was with the Padres, I worked in the dugout area and took care of VIP's, special events, security ... well, as my roommate said, I was sort of a "Gold-plated gopher" and I loved it! During the off-season I worked for the Chargers and did a lot of fun part-time jobs at the Sports Arena. One of my most exiciting experiences was working at the World Series AND the Super Bowl in the same year! However, one day at a Padre's game a ball flew into my area from the field and hit me in the forehead. At the time i...Expand for more
t didn't seem serious, just very LOUD! But over a few years it started causing severe muscle contractions due to scarring in the motor area of my brain. It's incurable, very painful and debilitating, but I do what I can. I traded my motorhome for a large new fifth wheel last year (gotta' stay "mobile"!) and live right ON the Sacramento River in Redding which is the nearest town to my daughter (only child). She lives on a large ranch about 95 miles NE of here with her husband, plus a son and daughter (my only grandkids). My daughter is the charge nurse at the Fall River hospital and takes four 12-hour shifts a month delivering babies in Chico for a change of pace. My grandson just graduated from the University of Pacific with and degree in Sports Science and my grand-daughter just finished her sophomore year at Sonoma State in the Nurse Practitioner program. (One step above her Mom. Haha.) Everyone is so busy I seldom see them. My grandson has always been BIG-time into baseball and I had the pleasure of watching him grow from T-Ball through High School, Semi-Pro and two years in Fresno where he made quite a name for himself. He "paid" his way through UOP with his baseball scholarship. Guess hanging out with people like Tony Gwynn, Trevor Hoffman, Bruce Bochy and Ricky Henderson when he was ages 8-12 didn't hurt! He even got to talk with Ted Williams once. Now, since his life has been so regimented, he's taking some time to enjoy life. Lives with a roommate in a condo on the 17th floor with a balcony overlooking Waikiki and got a job with the Hilton hotel and has been invited to join a men's baseball league so he can do what he loves without the pressure. Wow! Talk about your stars being lined up right! Haha. What did YOUR first apartment look like? My grand-daughter at Sonoma State is on the running team, in a fun sorority and has several good scholarships. Really enjoying the "college experience" to the fullest. So, even though my wings have been clipped very short, I have lots of good memories and am a proud Grandma. I've enjoyed reconnecting with quite a few old Classmates here, but there are many people I would still like to hear from and I'm sure you're one of them. I use AOL, with the name "Dugoutlady". And, by the way, PLEASE take a minute to fill out YOUR profile. All of your friends will be happy to see it, which means you are probably still alive! ;)
