Procopio's Story

Two weeks after high school, my family moved to Beaumont, CA. and in the fall of '70, I began college at UCLA. I studied art, graduating with a BFA in 1975 and returning for my Secondary Teaching Credential in '77. My closest friends are still from this period of my life (as Mr. Courdy foretold...!). Fellow PHS alumni friends at UCLA were Richard Fallon, Rosie Pim...Expand for more
entel, Lisa Stout, and Kerry Riddle. Great times! I've been a "pictorial artist" since 1979, hand-painting huge billboards, doing scenic art and painting for Disneyland Parks. My son, Mark, was born in 1987 and is a vet from the Iraqui War. I attended the 20 Year Reunion in 1990 and saw many high school friends there. Hope you all are enjoying life and take care.

Remembering my primo David "Woody" Palacios, who would have been 70 today. (Here with my Papa in Beaumont, in March of 1983,). RIP, big Trojan Fan...
Happy 2017 to my family and friends! (Just finished this poster for a co- worker's daughter who is an O.C. Sheriff officer. Here she is as a little girl, in her over-sized uniform, with her favorite Disney characters...
Another "favorite character" piece, this time for my Chippewa-Cree buddy, Sabira, from the Rocky Boy Reservation in Montana.
The "Next Generation"...! I see doctors, super models, a war hero, among this group of achievers that make me proud!
Thinking about my Mama's parents today. Raymundo and Carlota Burgueno of Zavala, Sinaloa, Mexico. Wish I had known them. (Painted in the '90's...).
My Papa, Procopio Serna Palacios, at age 17 in 1925, Yuma, AR. This tough guy was born in Tucson on March 23, 1908, four years before Arizona entered the Union...
If I would've met him at 17, he'd have kicked my ass! He still wanted to at 95! Miss this rough ol' boy...
Cleaned up a small oil painting from December 1998, that I'd done for "Vivi" Ramirez. He turned 90 last December, and has been a longtime amigo...
Sunrise over Hacienda Hts., CA., shining on Mark's military banner.
Thinking about my Tia Delia tonight (with her beloved Mariel). Besos!
Think she liked it?! Sabira's last day working at Disneyland... I told her that she'll always remember her Apache-Mexican-Italian artist brotha!
Quickie lunchtime acrylic sketch of my grandpuppy, Mark's "little girl" Teagyn...
Riposi in pace, Rodolfo... Today 12:10pm, since 1926.
Dorothy Stratten, February 28, 1960-August 14, 1980. Classic beauty, gone too soon... RIP.
Smile! Happy Halloween Weekend!
Remembering Duane Allman, today 45 years ago... RIP, Skydog.
One more, at my 30 minute lunch break today...
My querida tia, Mama Chelo, on our visit to Morelia, Michocan, Mexico. (Dec. '78)
I'm surrounded by family beauties at one of Mama Chelo's birthday fiestas at Las Playas de Tijuana, B.C., Mex.
Thinking of my Papa as Fathers Day looms... I'm a year older now than he was in this photo, in front of my dorm on my first day at UCLA, Sept. 1970. Happy Fathers Day, tough guy!
