Mark's Story
I'm retired now, after 30 years in the teaching profession - you have to admit that was a strange career for a high school dropout to go into, but my friends from the Class of '71 know it made perfect sense. After my illustrious high school years (all three months of it), I enlisted in the U.S. Air Force where I rose to the rank of Sergeant (Sgt. Provance - now there's national security for ya). You laugh, but when I was stationed at Homestead Air Force base in Florida, not one single Viet Cong got past Key West. Come to think of it, when I was stationed in Canada, not one single Russian got past the Arctic Circle. Remember, while you slept, I was on guard.
To some of my old friends from Catonsville days:
Pam B. - peanut butter
Scott L. - "Hashish to ashes"
Rick S. - It was a woman who drove me to drink, and I never did thank her for it.
Michael S. - "Meow!"
Sean L. - I'm telling ya, man. We could have won the election in '88!
Bob H. - Stickeroonies!
Mike S. - What are you insinuendoating?
The G.I. Bill allowed me to go to college and, believe it or not, I didn't drop out. I went on to earn my teaching certificate and spent...Expand for more
many years teaching Social Studies to middle school and high school kids. The teaching was fun, but I could have done without the bureaucratic BS (bovine scatology).
Throughout my life, I went through a series of wives, tried them on for size, and finally decided on the one called Stacey (see photos). I also managed to have two terrific daughters - I'm proud of you guys. Love ya.
I've spent a lot of time in the world of performing arts. I've worked in theater (community, dinner, regional, summer stock, etc.) and became eligible for membership in SAG. I made a (very) brief appearance on NBC's Homicide. Look for me, but don't blink.
Not only that, but also... I spent time as a singer-songwriter, working under the stage name of Stacy Vance, Jr. There's a CD floating around, if you can find it. I am a proud member of ASCAP.
Stacey and I live on a farm in Westminster, MD with our only son, a beagle named Junior.
Finally, a shoutout to my favorite housekeeper, Carrie: I wish you every happiness and hope your memories of me aren't too harsh.
And to all of you in the Navy: your hats are on backwards!
Adieu!
