Rachel's Story

Life After graduation, I left for Oakland, CA to attend Holy Names Colledge. In '78 I earned by BA in Liberal Arts and a Teaching Degree. I returned to Lincoln Heights for 1 year to stay with my dad because my mom died the previous year. We made arrangements for him to move back to El Paso, TX where he spent his young adulthood and had family. In 1980 I entered the Dominican Sisters of Mission San Jose (CA) as a postulant and remained with them for approx. 12 years. While I was a Dominican Sister I earned and completed a degree in Special ED (dyslexia concentration)and I also began my Masters in Business Administration. I taught in Dominican schools both in NCAL & SCAL for the 10 years I was with them. During that time my dad was getting older and sicker. One highlight as a Dominican sister was taking various trips to the Holy Land as a Dominican and as a teacher. Another was hearing John Paul preach and also hearing a "sermon" from Mother Theresa. As both an elementary teacher, I was able to travel quite a bit and used those opportunities to incorporate history lessons and world events into my style of teaching. I have been fortunate to see almost all of the USA as well as parts of Europe and Mexico. After I left the sisterhood I remained in teacher for a number of years but left that field and finished my Masters in Business Administration. It was difficult getting my feet wet in the business world but I eventually found my way into the Call Center industry and loved it. It was very similar to teaching - different every day, allowed for creativity and training so I stayed in that industry as manager for a numbe...Expand for more
r of years. I've had many wonderful experiences with all sort of business types: small, mid-size and a corporate style. All were good in their own way. Thru that experience I came to discover the field of Quality and the various positions called "Quality Assurance Analysts, Manager, etc." Well, I was hooked and it was off to school again (this time at night or weekends). I completed my Quality Assurance degree and began looking for a way to transition into that field. This "transition" took longer than I expected but in late 1990 I came across a company where I am currently working at, TBS Couriers, where I was eventually going to put my interest into a QA position. I was hired as TBS' Customer Service Manager and after 1 years was promoted into the position of Quality Assurance Manager and I am happy to say that I am still here and loving every minute of it. Along the way I also married my wonderful husband, Warren Proctor of Fremont, CA and have already celebrated 12 years of marriage. Early on we both knew that we did not want children. Instead, we have a love of pets and currently have 4 funny cats as our "cat family". Warren comes from a large family (12 kids!) so we have plenty of family (they all live in the East Bay) to visit and see. The other area that keeps us both busy is that we love traveling and we volunteer in various ways around our home town of Union City/Fremont, CA. I tutor because you can take the teacher out of the school but ... Currently, we are waiting for our vacation to Washington, DC during the July 1-JUly 8th weekend and in August, during the reunion, we are heading for Boston.
