Ralph's Story
I graduated from Tulsa Washington in 1972. I was one of those first few "Metro" program white guys that transferred in from an all-white school (Edison) to help keep Washington open. It was slated to be closed down by the Tulsa school board and the students at Washington were to be bussed to other schools all over town.
We had to get Washington H.S. 2.5% white the first semester, and 5% white by the second semester, to keep it from being closed. I was one of the very lucky ones that heard about it and I jumped at the c...Expand for more
hance. I am deeply indebted to the teachers, my peer students, and all of the other students at Washington H.S. for making it the best year of my life! I am especially appreciative of Granville Smith (Principal), Mr. Jackson (math), and Robert Owen (Metro social studies)!

Does anybody remember me from the class of 1972?
I was a very tall (6'8") white geeky guy that showed up late September. It sure would be great hooking up with y'all!
