The last several years of my life have been pretty "CHALENGING". My dad died in June '03 and I didn't deal with the grief, I bottled it up. Fortunately, I grew up in a very strong, close family, and those relationships got me through it. Then, in February '07, my mom died. It wasn't good. It was ugly. I didn't handle it well, and for several months, I was basically a zombie - walking around like normal, but I wasn't living. Again, my family (my sisters and nephew), and extended family (mainly my Aunt Maggie), got me through it. But then a couple months after Mom died, my sisters and nephew went to Alabama to visit family, and I was at home, ALONE, for basically the first time since Mom's death. Long story - short version - I didn't have my family to occupy my time, and I had fallen out of touch with most of my friends, so I was foolish. To entertain myself, I started drinking (which I hadn't done much of since college), and then I drank some more, and so on - you get the picture. As if that wasn't bad enough, once I was good and drunk, I did something re...Expand for more
ally stupid, and illegal, and I ended up in jail for 3 months. In addition to the jail time, I served four years on probation, just finishing that up September '11. The situation that I got MYSELF into, and everything that I went through, and continue to deal with, because of it, was terible, but at the same time, it may well be the best thing that ever happend to me. I grew up going to church, and I became a Christian at an early age, but I had turned my back on that, and was definately not living the way that I should have been. My faith got me through those three months in St. Lucie county, and got me refocused on the things that I need to be. God has definately moved in my life, and I love him more and more everyday for it. I'm still far from perfect, as all of us are, but I have that goal to be more Christlike, and I am striving daily to reach that goal. I have stumbled, and I'm sure that I will continue to, but "this too shall pass." I am a work in progress, and the Apostle Paul tells us (and I believe him), in Philippians 1:6 "that He who has begun a good work in you will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ." I am very glad that I returned to my faith, because it has gotten me through the very difficult times that I have faced since my time in jail. In June of 09', my eldest sister, Wanda died from complications of the MRSA infection. Wanda and both of my parents are now all in their eternal homes in heaven, and I have that blessed assurance that I will one day be reunited with them, and we will all bask together in the Glory of our Lord. My sister Karetha was diagnosed with cancer in October of 2011, and she is fighting her battle with more strength and grace than I could ever muster. I have been on disability since June of 2010 due to a hyperactive ammune disorder, but life goes on, and God is good! My faith, my family, my church friends (new and old), my Fraternity Brothers (a couple in particular - you know who you are), and my old friends who have stuck with me through it all, are all very important to me. These are the things that get me through each day, and help me to look forward to each sunrise. I am blessed!".
