news wire service. I stayed with UPI for 21 years until its financial troubles began taking the company down and then I went to work for a daily newspaper for the next 11 years, covering national defense issues and state government. I finally gave up the news businesses three years ago and have since been working part-time with health care providers to help them understand new federal regulations and help them enact state legislation. I plan to retire completely in another couple of years and spend my time traveling, skiing, golfing and fishing.
