Mike's Story
Life
After obtaining an AA in Business Management and struggling in retail management positions after high school, I was hired by a small international airline in January of 1979. I spent the next seven years traveling the world and spending significant time in Germany and England where I became involved with brewing beer and making wine. In the winter of 1986 I was accepted at the University of California, Davis, and in March of 1989 I graduated with a BS in Fermentation Science.

y alma mater, the Department of Viticulture and Enology, at UCDavis where I am currently a researcher, educator, and consultant, and also pursue an advanced degree in my not so copious free time.
I am single and have never been married but I take my Uncle duties very seriously. I have two nieces with whom I maintain a close relationship; the oldest having graduated with a BS from UCI and started medical school and is a member of the class of 2017. The youngest niece graduated from CSULB with an Art degree and is busy developing her entrepreneurial skills and art projects. Besides making wine in my spare time, I grow, cook, and process fruits and vegetables from my organic garden, hike, play guitar, try to get in some surfing when the opportunities present themselves, and plan my next vacation. My areas of professional interest/research are wine analysis - chemical and sensory, and wine microbiology.
