Randal's Story
Life
After high school I worked at Frontier Village while attending college. I completed college (Elementary Education Art) and then hitch-hiked Europe with my wife and a couple of friends. I was married to Terrie Butcher then.
When I got home there were no jobs for teachers so I became a landscaper. During that time I kept doing stunt-work and did some minor movie stuff. I worked at Marine World Africa USA ( wrestled lions and tigers) and Marriott's Great America (Landscape supervisor and stunts.) I got divorced in 1979 and went back to school for a teaching credential. I started teaching elementary school and got married again in 1982. We have three daughters. I now have three grandchildren.
I retired from teaching history at Chaboya Middle School in 2013 and began teaching only at San Jose State University. Over the 35+ years of teaching I taught 3rd-8th grades and at the university level; teaching at SJSU and Chaboya concurrently for 12 years. The classes I taught at SJSU are History Methods and Curriculum for Teachers and Service Learning. I...Expand for more
also supervised student teachers and interns. I retired from teaching in December of 2016.
I love canoeing and cycling, but now my cycling is limited to recumbents and my high wheel bicycle as my arthritis keeps me from bending over the bars. The stuntwork was fun but kinda hard on the body. I can, and do ride an 1889 Columbia Volunteer high-wheel bicycle. It has a 54" front wheel. My family and I do Living History at many sites in California.
This year, 2016, we purchased some acreage in Placerville and are beginning a small garden/orchard. It has been pleasant seeing the deer and turkeys outside my window as I eat breakfast.
I volunteer with the Hangtown Marshals and the Placerville Stagecoach rides. Come out to Old Town Placerville, say hi, and catch a free ride on the stage. You can do so on the third Saturday of each month, except June and September.
As of August 2022 I have my art in the Gold Country Artist Gallery. You can check it out on line under my name or drop by when. you ride the stagecoach. I hope you have a blessed day,
Randy
