Randall's Story

Few of you probably were aware that during my summers in Oceanside I would go to the state of Iowa where both my parent were born and work on farms. Due to my love of horses, which has been a part of me as long as I can remember, I pursued a lot of horse activities during my summers away from Oceanside. I chose to go to the University of KY because Lexington was the "mecca" of the horse world. There I majored in Animal Science and later became a certified Professional Animal Scientist with a specialization in equines. My work experience took me to the tropics where I managed Thoroughbred farms in both the hot & humid lowlands and the eternal springtime in highland tropical rain forests. I also managed breeding farms in Upperville, Virginia and Lexington, Kentucky before getting involved in bloodstock work in Lexington with many clients throughout Latin America. Eventually, I settled in Chile where I was on retainer at one of the biggest Throughbred breeding farms. Later I also became a successful commercial trainer of racehorses. While training I was introduced to the Chilean Horse breed through a horse I bought to pony race horses with back problems. I started going on t...Expand for more
rail rides up into the Andes Mountains twice a month with this horse. Later I attended my first Chiiean rodeo by going to the national championship rodeo of Chile and there I became totally enamoured with the courageousness and athletic ability of the breed. I so admired this breed that I left the track and moved to Iquique to spend the next 8 years of my life writing a 567 page, two volume book about the breed. It is available free of charge to anyone interested in my web site chileanhorse.com Presently, I have a small Chilean Horse breeding project on a ranch in southern Chile that also has an aeolic energy project with 5 big windmills up and running and another ten on the way. As an ecological park we are also establishing a nursery in order to propagate native trees and flowers in the region. It is nice to know that we have a spot where all OSH graduates can go to in order to rekindle old friendships. Like myself I am sure many of you have been lured away from Oceanside for one reason or another, but there is always a special feeling to get back in touch with one's roots where so many meaningful friendships were inititated. My best to you all, "Randy" Randall Ray Arms
