Randall's Story
Like most of "our generation" I entered the Army (Corps of Engineers ROTC at NU) after college graduation. After I got out of the Army I was very lucky to find a company where I kind of fit right in. Though I didn't know it at the time (security) the company (ITEK Optical Systems) got its start building the cameras that photographed the Cuban missile silos and went on with things like airborne recconnaisance systems and the Viking cameras on Mars (1976)
Now, I'm now retired in Duxbury (retirement community). but in my career, I held positions over the years as Principal Systems Engineer and Director of Engineering. I worked mostly on programs having to do with "stuff" in space. The "stuff" included the Chandra X-Ray telescope program, the Sptizer Infrared telescope & some "recce" systems (you might do a web search on the KH-9 or see the book "Spy Capitalism" by Lewis ) as well as "real time atmospheric compensation" systems for ground-based telescopes.
My time in the Army was spent in the Corps of Engineers., mainly at Ft Wolters TX.. - the Army's Primary Helicopter School. I'm still a licensed pilot, and I built and flew two small aircraft, one Ultralight and one "Light Sport" and was involved with the local chapter of EAA (Experimental Aircraft Association)

grubby details.
Recently, I've been involved for over 10 years in STEM Ed in local
schools as a volunteer instructor/speaker with the RE-SEED program (A program out of Northeastern U). In that capacity I got a couple awards as "volunteer of the Year" that I'm kind of proud of.
Now, I can put together presentations and materials for parents or instructors on Observatories, Management or Engineering "history" to help out their class rooms.
My wife and I have been certified scuba divers for 30 years -we've been diving in Hawaii (Maui, Kauai, and the "Big" Island), the Caribbean (we luv Little Cayman) and Roatan, we also did some local kayaking.
My wife being one of those "Master Gardeners", it's kept me doing things like hauling/arranging rocks and mulch around the yard.
Also, proud grandpa to 3; 2 girls and 1 boy... 1 in MA 2 in CA.. the CA kids graduated from college this year;. now, how did all that happen ?? Our MA "grand" is in National Honor Society - WOW
If you get this far on my profile, let me extend an invitation to visit us or send an email. We're not hard to find, just down rt3 toward Plymouth -it'd be fun to rehash some of the "old days"...I use randymoore1 as my username on "comcast"..; remember Mr Abbott or Mr French ? , I'd luv to see some of my old classmates from Worcester - drop a note !
