Randall's Story
Life
After graduation from Euclid, I attended Kent State's aviation degree program. I later joined the Marine Corps and in 1975 I traveled to the Naval Air station in Pensacola, Fl
In 1979, I was offered a job with an Allegheny Commuter operator out of Pittsburg, PA flying small turboprop equipment for Allegheny Airlines while waiting for a major airline to call.
In mid 1979, the second oil embargo hit the airline industry hard and all hiring ceased, followed quickly by furloughs. It was a tough time in the industry. Two years later in 1981, PATCO struck the air traffic control system which brought the airline industry, already reeling from the oil embargo, to an almost dead stop. More furloughs followed. Within a year or so, the industry began to recover and hiring was again taking place. In early 1984, I was hired by PeoplExpress Airlines as a B-727 co-pilot. A few years later, PE was merged, along with New York Air and Frontier Airlines into Continental Airlines.
In 1994, Continental launched Cal Lite and I transfered from Newark, NJ where I left the B-727 behind and began flying the DC-9 out of the Greensboro, NC crew base.
In 1996, Greensboro closed and I was transfered to Houston, Tx where I advanced to DC-9 Captain.
In 2000, the DC-9's were retired and I transitioned to the B-737 where to this day I am a Houston based B737 Captain.
After hiring on with PeoplExpress Airlines, I moved to Tampa, Fl where the weather was nicer and the commute easier. In 1997, I moved further south to Sarasota, Fl where I remain to this day.
