Randall's Story

In 2001 I worked for Intel Corporation and had a consulting engagement in New York City. My team and I witnessed the destruction of the twin towers from the 8th floor conference room of the Met Life building. Our customer, Credit Susie First Boston, had coworkers in the towers. Out of respect for our customers we left for our hotel two blocks away which was directly across from the National Guard Armory on 26th and Park Ave to watch the drama unfold. We had planned to our wrap-up lunch at the top of one of the towers on 9/12/2001. Somewhere I still have the receipt for the reservations. One of our team mates was a Muslim from Egypt who hid in his room after attack. I don't know i...Expand for more
f he had any prior knowledge of the attack, but his actions were suspicious. I left Intel and started working of Los Alamos National Labs as a technical staff member the first of October, 2001 and am currently helping to integrate the world's fastest computer into the Los Alamos environment. This computer is a cluster of IBM servers and Sony Play Station III blades capable of 10^15 floating point instructions per second sustained. I still enjoy fast cars (I own a 1970 GTO convertible) and motorcycles. I've completed one 1000 mi. in 24hr endurance run at the age of 50 and I'm planning to compete in the Land of Enchantment Iron Butt this October on my 2003 Kawasaki Concours.
