Randy's Story

Life...ramblings... After graduation Kathy (Britton) and I were together for about 7 years. She's remarried and living on the coast west of Eugene. I lead a pretty simple life, sort of retired but still have a small real estate company, Atwater Real Estate. Along with some partners am involved in redevelopment of mostly riverfront properties and the Hotel Elliott, in Astoria. I've never had a real job, just do real estate stuff. Have fun and some times get paid for it! Been married a couple of times-still friends with all and biz partners with one. ... it's been an adventure and a good time! Believe strongly that if you are not having fun... you need to go do something else! If you are in Astoria look me up--my offices are in the old Bumble Bee Seafoods Complex at Ten-Sixth Street (the 2 story building on piling in the river). Always interested in old friends, stories...new and old...fact or the way we choose to remember them. Met some truly amazing people along the way... Dale McGinnis, Rick Ross, Eric Burdon, had some good times had some not good times, but mostly good. Learned that time is more important than money and people more important than time.....and to trade quality over quantity...always. Have a tight circle of good friends and we live well. I have done cars and houses (about 60 of each) a half dozen bikes- mostly Sportsters. A bunch of boats, prop/jet/sail when I lived on the lake. Have been clocked at 146 mph in my old beamer... and talked my way out of the ticket. Flew a vintage WW2 B-17 up the Columbia River. Always wanted to get a pilots license. Once lost $45K in Vegas in 3 days. Sometimes I win...probab...Expand for more
ly net zero this lifetime. Been around the US, didn't like Mexico, loved Alaska, never been over seas. Will go to NYC to see the Chrysler Building...and where Susan grew up. Lost a few people I cared about...most recently my brother Gary. Very strange to be the only one left from my family, was told at 12 I would be dead before 50...never believe a doctor...they are not the gods they/we think they are! Been poor... been not poor....... not poor is better. This is getting pretty self indulgent and probably boring... if you got this far! Like the Cajuns say..."Laissez les bon temps rouler"!-rand 12 17 2010 A quick update...Ten Sixth Street and No. One Sixth Street burned to the deck...reminded me of the words of Inspector Clouseau, (which I try to live by) "there is a time for laughing and a time for not laughing and this is not one of them"....good news-no one was killed or injured. Looks like a 5-6m loss, probably will not rebuild. Guess it was time for that partnership to end. We moved our offices to the old Fisher Bros. Industrial Building just east of our parking lot on 7th street. Phone is still the same 503 325 -SOLD (7653). We were insured ...Like McWatt said "Oh well what the hell". 08282012 Finally got to the Chrysler Building...jumped security to shoot photos of the elevator doors. They keep things pretty tight...but the security people were pretty cool...let me finish and helped me leave. Rented an apartment at 43 Charles, about 2 blocks from where Susan grew up. Their brownstone was gone, but we hit the places where she played as a kid... did all the tourist stuff, great food/architecture/art...to many people!
