Randy's Story
Life
Retired from Law Enforcement after being injured in the line of duty. Just bought a new Harley ( my 5th Harley and bike number 26 overall) and am now a grandfather for the 7th time. I'm enjoying life, trying to locate and stay in touch with my old friends and classmates.
I'm a retired cop, an NRA certified police firearms instructor, trained at GLOCK,COLT and S&W armorers schools, Ran a gun shop for many years, fired both rifle and handgun competitions and have been an avid hunter most of my life with archery, black powder, shotgun, hand gun and modern rifle. I am a past director for my motorcycle club, although I currently do not ride, I am still a road captain, and still do free lance photography for the north west region of PGR riders, and do free lance photography for a few motorcycle publications.
In January of 2010, I sold my last Harley and bought a small ranch. I stay pretty busy, between feeding and caring for the stock, which includes cattle, donkeys, pigs, Pygmy goats, great Pyrenees puppies and even a husky or two.
It seems that there us always something to do, or that needs attention, but it is a labor of love. My usual daily schedule starts very early. First up, I have to bottle feed the calves, depending on how many we have at the moment, this takes about an hour. Then throw hay for the larger cattle and water them, then move on and collect the eggs, feed and let the chickens out. By then it's time to move the irrigation lines in the lower pasture, which means shutting off the irrigation water, and moving the lines by hand, in 40' sections. I need up to 8 sections per line, and then turn the irrigation pumps back on. By then it's lunch time. After lunch, I get on the regular chores, mowing down weeds with the tractor, mowing lawns, cleaning out the dog kennels, gathering fruit and berries from our trees nab bushes, watering and taking care of the garden and so on. Throw in trips to the feed store...Expand for more
, hauling animals to the vet etc, and it makes for a full afternoon. Evenings start the feeding and caring for stock cycle over again, and we can or put up stuff from the garden, harvest potatoes to fill the bin etc in the evenings. I am also in the middle of remodeling the house. The first and second floors are done with painting. (haven't done the third floor yet)' I put in all new track lighting, am replacing all the trim thru out the house too. I ordered new counter tops, new carpet etc and will install as they come in. Of course Leslie wanted new appliances, so i am switching over to propane, and installing all new stuff for her. I have several wind generators I am building, and hopefully we will be off grid and producing all our own power by year end. Inside, I still have to finish the third floor remodel. I have taken out a wall between two bedrooms and made a master suite. Still need to paint one more bedroom upstairs and replace the bathroom tub and shower.
We planted about a dozen new trees this spring, including 7 more fruit trees. I still have a list of projects a mile long, but it's getting there.
We will be getting in more calves this fall, and at least 10 more next spring. The alfalfa is about ready to harvest and bale, which means stacking 15-20 tons by hand in the barn. Fun stuff!
I could go on and on, but you can see, I am always busy!
My two sons are married and raising their own kids. My daughter and son in law are partners with me on the ranch, although they work full time, as well as attend the university. So I only see them in the evenings and weekends.
I enjoy chatting with old friends and can be reached at rc 2462 and I yahoo. (had to do it this way or it gets blocked by classmates) I try to keep up with correspondence, but it may be a day or two between replies. Oh, and the ranch is called the LAZY C!
Hard to believe this southern california native has lived in Idaho for 25 years now.
