Randy's Story
The draft lottery pulled me out of college, was against Nam so enlisted for Europe for 3 years, with delayed entry for 3 months so I quit my job and enjoyed the summer and my 1954 Jaguar xk 120. Since I was in the first of the Volunteer army, when I reported for duty in Detroit, instead of just sending me to fort Cambell in Kentucky, they asked me where I wanted to go to basic, I said California so they sent me to Fort Ord by Monterey- even had a couple weekends off in basic to enjoy the effort. From there to Oklahoma for two weeks leadership train and pfc pay grade, all spit and polish, unfortunately they lost my duffel bag on the plane down, so I missed most of the inspections. Next, me and ten other pfc's with high IQ's were selected to go to a new special school for nco's...Expand for more
and they wanted to see how pfc would do. From nuclear rounds, explosives, jumping off of cliffs. A story in itself. From there I headed to Germany, my guarantee, where I wanted to get in the office rather than my job specialty, cannoneer in an 8 inch nuclear unit. When the first sergeant, saw my IQ score and that I could type 30 words per minute, he asked me if I want to work in his office, you know my response. What I didn't expect is that he gave me a week off, and a driver to show me around. Then things got interesting, more later to include how i ended up 60 air miles back in the Alaskan Bush one winter with my girl friend.
In 1980 I started my company Raintree Screenprint which now is online only and the company assists animal rescues market using low priced shirts.
