Randy's Story

After Centra Highl and a stint at A.S.U.  I went to work for the Santa Fe Railway in 1972.  I worked in varying capacities around the Phoenix area in billing, inspection, claims, crew assignments, etc. . Transferred to Winslow, AZ Division Headquarters in 1983 to start as Rail Traffic Controller. Moved to Albuquerque, NM in 1990 when Santa Fe consolidated several offices into a regional operations center. Moved to Chicago, IL in 1993 when all the regional offices were consolidated into corporate headquarters. Moved to Fort Worth, TX in 1997 after Santa Fe merged with the Burlington Northern Railroad and became the BNSF Railway.. I retired after 43 years in 2015.  . While working for the railroad, I got married, had kids, got divorced and became a single parent with custody of my children.  Then my children got married and had children giving me 5 grandchildren. I rode motorcycles and learned to Ski in my early 20's and skied pretty regularly in my 20's, 30's, and 40's at about a dozen different ski areas in Arizona, California, Utah, New Mexico, Minnesota and Wisconsin. I maintained a fairly active recreational lifestyle in addition to skiing with running, hiking, biking, swimming, some boxing and Taekwondo, and triathlon.  I've hiked in the Grand Canyon twice  Climbed a couple of 12,000 ft. peaks - Humphreys Peak in AZ and Medicine Bow peak in Wyoming..  I hiked up Squaw peak hundreds of times in my 20's, 30's and 40's and hiked up the Sandia Mtns in Albuquerque dozens and dozens of times while living there.   I competed in the Arizona Senior Olympics in 2007 and along with fellow Central classmates Dave Bybee and Bob Gaines we won 1st place in the men's triathlon relay.  After retiring in 2015 I went on a guided raft trip on the the upper reaches of the North Platt river in Colorado. I Traveled to Wyoming in 2017 to watch a total eclipse of the sun. More yet to come . . . .
