Randy's Story
Life
The years were long. Sometimes fulfilling, sometimes rewarding and sometimes, downright frustrating. That brings me here, a site where I hopefully get to re-acquaint myself with some of the most interesting people on the planet. Hello past friends and future friends! This is my story since some of you knew me long ago. This is not fiction...it's a "thriller", a "work in progress", a "dream in the making"...it's just me, a creation of God, no better or worse than anyone else, a sinner saved by grace. A story many of you have lived with under different circumstances but similar joys, heartaches and tragedies. My love goes out to you.
There were only two places I never wanted to live: 1. New York; 2. California. After graduating from Bible college I accepted a position as technical sales rep for a Scripps-Howard Publishing computer center and immediately moved to, gulp, New York! After one year, I laid down some tracks of original music, applied and was accepted to the prestigious Guitar Institute of Technology in Hollywood. I was accepted...God was leading. My former pastor Rick Warren has said "God is happiest when you are doing what He created you to do". I stepped out in faith with only a few thousand dollars and a pristine 1964 Chevrolet Impala. With Pat Benatar and Boston blasting through my tape player, I headed west with a dream of playing my guitar and maybe singing backup for Amy Grant or Tim Sheppard or Dallas Holm etc. Or, maybe I would just be able to provide spiritual guidance to bands from my education...yeah, that made sense beca...Expand for more
use I never wanted to be in "the ministry" but ended up at bible college because I didn't know what else to do and my dad went there and thought it would be a good experience for me. Regardless, after arriving in, gulp, California, I planned on posting an ad at a church in Hollywood for a room...that was the next step of faith. I wish I could tell you I followed through. Unfortunately, I looked up a former professor from college who had recently taken a church in So. Cal. I let my fear rather than my faith guide me. It was a disaster. I ended up as music minister for 5 years, met a woman in the choir who was completely wrong for me but married her anyway. After multiple infidelities on her part and tens of thousands of dollars of marriage counseling, she finally ran off with a saxophonist and our 10 yr. marriage was over. All water under the bridge. Oh yes, the pastor was actually wanted by the FBI for stealing over $60k from the church before disappearing. Since then, God has had to take an almost dry piece of clay, chipped and broken and begin warming it up in His expert hands. This clay is now pliable and being shaped into something useful. I've been in the computer industry since the mid 1980's, I've never put my guitar down and I still write original compositions. I'd like to record an original CD before I die! ha ha I have no expectations of grandeur or fame, I never have had. I have always only wanted to create via the spiritual medium of music, sounds that would allow people to connect with the Almighty, the Creator of heaven and earth.
