Randy's Story
I can't believe that it's been over 40 years since we left MV! Here is the condensed Reader's Digest version of what I have been doing since:
It doesn't seem that long ago that I followed three of our classmates, Sue Kauffman, Liz Peterson, and Jon Ellis to Stanford where I majored in physics. I then went to MIT for graduate school (6 years!) where I earned a PhD. During that time, I married my college sweetheart, Lourdes. We just celebrated our 36th year of marital (usually) bliss.
Following a couple of years working in Boulder, CO, where we had our first child, Ben, we packed up and moved to Houston where Lourdes was/is a corporate attorney and I have been on the faculty of Rice University (you can read about our work on ultra-cold atoms at my website at Rice.. I wonder if Mr. Miller or Mr. Borowski would be surprised that I stuck with physics ...

the addition of Gabriella a few years later. Ben is working in the data analytics field, while Gabriella is an artist. She was married two years ago (in California!) and after 2 years in Oxford, where her husband is finishing school. Lourdes retired after several rounds with breast cancer a few years ago, and is enjoying life! She will join me on a sabbatical at the University of Florence next summer. Ben and I share a passion (but not ability, I am afraid) for bicycle riding. He rode from Houston to Seattle a couple of years ago, and I joined him for a few hundred incredible miles in Montana.
I still see a couple of classmates: Jon Ellis and Steve Smith. Jon keeps up with many of you, so I get my news through him. Jon suggested this site to me. I've been to one reunion (maybe the 20th?), but haven't heard of any since. Do they exist? I hope to see you all at one soon!
