Randy's Story
I would have to say my life has evolved more than it was planned although I did know when I joined the military I was going to stay I just didn¿t know it would be 34 years. Like anyones life there have been ups and downs along the way and hopefully when I reach the end of the line, the small part Ive played in our nations quest to secure world peace will have made a difference.
I have two children Angela (33 sorry Angie) and Shawn (30), my son Shawn has one daughter and is a commercial electrician and supervisor of a commercial electrical team. My daughter Angela is a stay at home mom and has three children.
Ive been married three times. This time for eight years, after a ten year break, the first two were my training sessions, my current wife is Korean and why I am in Korea. Its only the two of us so if we want to go somewhere we just pick up and go, although I do miss my family. We are planning to go to the Island of Grenada for our tenth anniversary in 2011. I was there in 1983 when we invaded to secure the safety of the medical students and shut down Russia (with Cuban assistance) attempt to build a presence in the Western Hemisphere.
Heres a short version of where Ive been; I joined the Army in June 1975 as a Power Generator Depot level repairman, for .5KW up to 100KW industrial size Generators. After Advanced Individual Training at Ft Belvoir I went str...Expand for more
aight to Germany for three years and was assigned to a Topographic Battalion where I had the chance to travel Europe with my family. When I returned from Germany in 1979 I went to Ft Hood, TX where I had three assignments 1) Military Intelligence Battalion, 2) the Inspector Generals Maintenance Inspection Team, and 3) a power generator maintenance repair facility. While at Ft Hood I applied for and was accepted into the Armys Aviation Rotary Wing School at Ft Rucker, AL While there I was selected for Aero Scout Pilot training and upon graduation in 1982 I was assigned to Ft Bragg, NC with the 82d Airborne Division. While at Ft Bragg I attend jump school and the Aviation Maintenance Test Pilot Course at Ft Eustis VA. From there I had multiple trips to Korea and return to Ft Bragg, including real world and training deployments some of the things Ive been involved in are securing our Southern border, drug interdiction, humanitarian assistance, North Korean deterrence, and securing the peace of South West Asia. I am grateful for the chance to serve our great nation. I am a patriot at heart and thats really why I stayed in the military.
My official military retirement date was 1 Oct 09, however I continue to work for the military in a civilian capacity on the Joint Staff of United States Forces Korea in the J8 Capabilities Division.
Best regards to all
