Randy's Story
Life
After finishing at Ole Miss in Geology, my life turned to Medicine as I ended up as an Orthopaedic Assistant. I was and still am "addicted" to Orthopaedics (bone and joint surgery). Since my curiosity got the best of me in Orthopaedic R&D, a major Ortho Company led me to become a saleperson in Savannah, GA, then later Orlando, FL. From there, I was recruited by other Companies and went from sales to Assistant Business Director for a major Clinic out of Central Florida. The Companies include Smith & Nephew Richards, Johnson & Johnson, Exactech, Leavitt Medical, Generation II and a few others I can't remember!
My health started to get the best of me as my diabetes started to affect my health in major ways! I had several strokes and developed End Stage Renal Disease... kidney failure along with what I call "My souvenirs from the diabetes"!
I had been worked up for a kidney-pancreas transplant at the U of Miami, but my last stroke occurred before I could get officailly on their list, so I was taken back home to Louisiana and in 2001, I received a kidney-pancreas transplant at Willis-Knighton/LSU Medical Center in Shreveport! Everything was going well until my donor kidney was attacked by a relatively "rare" virus. So in 2005, God blessed me with a "new" friend for life as this friend gave me his kidney!
So with kidney #2, I'm doing as well as can be expected! God is GOOD!
Before and during all this, I had really developed a love for the game of tennis! I only wished I could have played at GHS! I walked on at Ole Miss and at the recommendation of my college coach, I later coached several players from all around the country! I was asked to coach a Christia...Expand for more
n Men's tennis team, Athletes-in-Action to Germany in the summer of '93. I ended up coaching several players from Europe.
All this led me and 2 partners to start a Sports Management Agency out of Orlando, FL called Top Seed Management or TSM.
I had acquired the exclusive contract to handle a possible tournament for the Senior Men's Tennis Tour with Jimmy Connors and his Champions' Tour, later known as the Nuveen Tour. All this was to "lock-out" a "small" organization named "Disney"! Oh well!
From my relationship with the Nuveen Tour's owners, I was asked to handle the marketing for several professional players including an Orlando Magic guard, a Tampa Bay Buccaneers kicker, a defensive end for the San Fransico 49'ers and a mid-fielder for the San Jose Clash Soccer team.
All this happened since the GHS days and now I'm just fortunate and happy to be alive!
Currently, I'm physically much better, but still on disability due to my health. All this to say, God is Good! I live with my parents and now that I've gotten better... I try to do what I'm supposed to do... take care of Mom and Dad!
I attend an awesome Church here in West Monroe and can fulfill some of my call to medicine by serving in the Church's Medical Team.
! Well.... that's ALL!
p.s. > I never married, but came "close"... real, real CLOSE! Too much to do with my life instead! But,.........! I did have my best friend who I met from a secretary in my office! It was a smooth haired fox terrier named "Tilden" (a famous tennis player of the 20's) who lived 17 years! I had to put him to sleep as he also had kidney disease! Tilden actually may have saved my life 2 or 3 times! Seriously!
NOW... that's all!
