Randy's Story

Life After high school graduation, I attended Harding University. I played football the first year and realized that I wasn't smart enough to give the time required for football and still study enough to graduate. I graduated in 4 years because I couldn't afford to go to school longer. I asked Sandra Alphin(Class of 82) to marry me May 9th 1987, the day before I graduated. November 21, 2007 will be our 20th wedding anniversary and I can't believe she put up with me this long. We adopted our 2 children as newborns after 14 years of marriage without kids. We are too old for this. We find ourselves relating to the grandparents at t-ball games because they are closer to our age. Our oldest is Olivia Morgan Reynolds and will be 6 November 6, 2007. Olivia played T-ball for the first time this year. Dad hopes it is the last time. She does the dance thing as much as you can do as a 5 year old, but I survive 1 dance recital a year. I am sure some of you can relate. Olivia is extremely social. OK... that is a nice way of saying that she introduces herself and talks to everyone she sees and she never lets that motor rest. She has blonde hair and blue eyes and melts me whenever she wants. Annaleigh Susan Reynolds is our 2 year old. We privately call her the terrorist, but don't tell Sandra that I said that. She is fully terribly 2, but I think she was terribly 1 before that. Just kidding! She is actually pretty fun once she warms up to you. Her personality is contagious and if you don't want to hear what is on her mind, don't get around her. She is the coordinated one of the two. She was stacking blocks on top of a little people gas station so she could balance on one foot to open the drawer to get the fuzzy pair of slippers from the top drawer of her chest 4 feet high. All this before she was 2. That was her Spider Man era. Her brown hair and brown eyes make her almost as pretty as her mom. We live in Gulf Shores, Alabama where I work with my brother for Merrill Land Company. We develop stuff whatever that means. I basically help manage day to day things that allow our owners to be removed from it. I worked for 17 years in healthcare technology related fields and transitioned into fixing hospital processes and working in hospital administration. It kept me along way from Pensacola, so I took a career change to move closer to home. My father and father-in-law died within months of each other in 2004 and my mom and mother-in-law needed there grandchildren. Both moms moved into new houses and are in good health. We see them both at least every weekend. We love Gulf Shores and being close to "HOME". I hope to see you soon at the Class Reunion. School High School was a blast. I remember this wirery, crazy, loud little man walked into our "varsity sports" class spring of my freshman year and said that "if you want to be a champion, committ yourself for 3 years and we would win a state championship before we graduated". 30 of us apparently believed him and Coach Sharp delivered. I have applied that ...Expand for more
to everything in my life that has been successful. 1. set a goal 2. believe the goal is achievable 3. do what it takes. College Harding University. I still get a bad taste in my mouth every time I hear the word Razorback. I only had a few roommates. Russell Recka was my first. I lived with him for the first semester because we were both offensive lineman on scholarship. He had this thing about walking around naked. I wonder what happened to him. I moved away from that freshman football wing to another dorm with Stephen Clemens spring of my freshman year. That was his second year and he had already been through 12 roomates. It wasn't long before I learned why. I still consider him one of my closest friends today. We lived together until he graduated. What does that say about me. I had a short stent with Greg Sansom until he got married. I finished my last year there with Bill "doe" Baker. Allias "Billdoe", "Baker Bill", or "Doe". We told the girls that he had that name because he looked like a little deer. HA! Bill and Dru are still true friends. I wish I saw them more. I still hate "sheppards pie" The smell of the football locker room is engrained in my memory bank forever. I offered to work as the computer room assistant every Friday and Saturday night my senior year because I had to be there any way. I had taken all of my easy courses for the first 2 and a half years that I had to perform a miracle to graduate on time. I remember calling my dad to tell him that I had my schdule worked out to finish in December of 1987 which would have meant 4 years and 1 semester. His response was how are you going to pay for the last semester, because he was done paying after 4 years. I reworked my classes into 2-19 hours semesters and a 21 hour semester. That was suicide and I must admit that I thought about it a few times. BUT I survived although the grades suffered. I remember sitting on Scott Ragsdale's front porch and asking him if I needed to call my parents and tell them not to leave on an 11 hour drive the following day because I might not graduate. I was taking Pascal programming language as an elective (easy A). Ha!! Now that class may keep me from graduating. I hadn't slept in a week and I am sure that it showed when Scott put his hand on my shoulder and said go back to your room and go to sleep and don't worry about it. He told me to promise not to be a Pascal programmer and I did. My first job was converting Pascal programs to Cobol. Apparently I learned something. I remember the Galaxy guys having a bunch of rooms together in the Heritage. All night movies and trips to the truck stop. I remember when they built Burger King and opened Subway behind the dorm. It was open all night. I remember launching water balloons from our 4th floor window with a funnel and surgical tubing. Wow!! they flew a long way. I remember my roomate (Steve Clemens) using a saw to get my cast off of my broken foot to save a doctors visit fee. I think it took 16 hours to finally get it removed.
