Randy's Story

Since retirement I have time to devote to the things that make life livable. My wife, my family, playing in a band with some really talented guys. The band is called "FOR WHAT IT'S WORTH" and we are all old guys but we can still get the job done musically. I'm the chubby guy on the end in the picture. Not the skinny kid with the flat top any more. Graduation day was the happiest day of my life, and was, to me, much similar to what it must feel like to be released from a Turkish prison. I see that two people have described me as AMBITIOUS........my greatest ambition during high school was to survive high school itself.... After all the crap I'm not bitter. Time has a way of washing away most of the bad memories, or at least dulling them a little. One exception, to this rather dismal period of my life, was the short time I spent attending Southern High School, in Racine Ohio. When I transferred there in the early spring of 1962, I was the "New Kid" and I expected to be treated as such, but was very surprised to be accepted by everyone and made to feel at home immediately. Students and teachers alike were all very friendly and helpful, and going there was like what going home is suppose...Expand for more
d to feel like. Sadly I was only there for the last part of my tenth grade year and the first few months of my Junior year, before returning to dear old XHS After high school came the Navy then the Army. I enjoyed both but liked the Army best. Things there were much more straight forward and to the point. I got to travel a lot and have seen a lot. Made me really appreciate how good we have it here in the U.S. Ah but that was long ago. My political views have changed a lot over the years. Age and experience has a way of doing that. We all grow older and hopefully wiser. It's surprising how smart our parents were. (and how really "in the dark" most of us really were.) I have to wonder where it will all end. Where ever and whenever that is, I gotta admit after it all, life has been really pretty rewarding, for me at least. I have a nine month old great grandchild, and he has made life truly special. I can't really explain it, that's just the way it is. Times are tough for everyone but my wife of almost twenty-nine years and I just keep stumbling forward. She is the love of my life, and life would be nothing without her. I love you Kathy. ..I'm currently available on other media under my name.
