Randy's Story
Forty years in a nutshell. After graduation, moved to Dallas, got married 8-10-73 to Kathy Mckee (Petrolia, '73), Son Chad born 12-12-73, couldnt find a good job and stayed lost everytime we left our efficiency apt. in bad part of Oak Cliff, so moved back to WF in April of 74. Went to work at Magic-Aire for 3 yrs. Daughter Kara born 8-24-76. No insurance for either birth, fortunately all went well and were healthy, but still very tough for struggling young couple. Bought house in Bonny homes edition in Sept. of '77 (I still own). Worked short time for Wichita Glass installing glass but got laid off in Dec 77. Was hired on same day1-30-78 by Fire Dept, and Certainteed Company. Wife didnt want me to be a fireman so worked rotating 12 hr. shifts at Certainteed for 31 yrs. Plant closed and moved to Mexico, so at 53 I had to start over. We separated in 02.Got divorce in 04 from Kathy. No hard feelings, We stil get along great and no reason to fight or hate on each other. We were never happy, too young too many struggles. I think we both thought nobody else on earth would have us except each other, so we lived alone together most all those years. (If that makes sense)...Expand for more
. Finally got to play and date and had a fantastic time. Got married to Pam (Seymour '76) on 7-7-07 and am very happy. Moved my dad in with us about 2 yrs ago to be a caregiver for him. He lived alone, battling depression over loss of his wife, my stepmom to cancer. Also developing Parkinsons disease, wouldnt eat or take his medicine right, confusion, etc. or basically take care of himself. This has been very hard on us as he is sooo depressed and just pitiful. Doesnt want to live. This has not been a blessing as we basically gave up our freedom. Pam has been great but its very hard and takes its toll. Currently I am working for RecoverCare delivering and repairing hospital equipment. I'm sure its been a long winding road for all of us after all these years as nobody gets out of this world unscathed, but I never had any direction. Both my kids graduated at Rider ('92 and '94) and now my 2 grandkids are there, a soph and freshman. I'm healthy, active, and happy and thinking young without some of the immaturity. LOL. Of course there is a lot more but trying not to bore with all the details. I sincerely want to hear about your life, and I hope its been kind.
