Raquel's Story

Raquel's schools include Austin High School, and Bassett Junior High in El Paso, TX.. During her off-time, Raquel was a devoted Volunteer for the EPISD and SISD, sharing her diverse talents and giving back to the community she so dearly loves. Raquel was commissioned in 2000-2001 to paint the library windows at Jane A. Hambric Elementary School, which bear her signature to this day. She has assisted in book fairs, public speaking, motivational speaking, AR- Labs, and was an active member of Hambric's PTA. Raquel was voted the 2000-2001 SISD Volunteer of the Year for Jane A. Hambric Elementary School. Raquel is a Stage 4 Cancer Survivor, donating her talents to the Rio Grande Cancer Foundation of El Paso. Professionally, Raquel has worked in the Medical and Law Enforcement Fields. Raquel was the first Graffiti Wipe Out Program's Community Outreach Coordinator for the County of El Paso in El Paso, TX, working in correlation with Community Service Corrections & Restitution, and Adult Probation Departments. Raquel was one of two CPHT's who prepared all the IV (intravenous) medications and admixtures, including Special Solutions, Neonatal, NICU, ICU, CCU, TPN, and Chemotherapy medications for all the in-house patients at the various hospitals she worked for including WBAMC during the Persian Gulf War. Raquel has received numerous professional awards for her work ethic, dedication, and willingness to go above and beyond the call of duty in both Medical and LE.. Raquel is a multi-genre, award-winning, El Paso Author/Visual Artist, and former Contributing Writer/ Interviewer, for Native Hoop Magazine. Raquel has also written for the Genealogical Society of Hispanic America's, Nuestras Raices Journal, and WNA Magazine. Her books are found through Amazon.com under her professional name, R A Monday. ted as a Member of Cambridge's Hall of Fame. Raised in the arid Desert Southwest region of the country, Raquel has been described as "Being the Southwest" by one of L.A.'s Documentary Film Makers due to her rich and colorful heritage. Raquel is Native Indian and Spanish. Raquel is a registered tribal member of the Lipan Apache Tribe of Texas where she served as General Council Advisor and Bilingual Communications Liaison. She is an avid student of Genealogy, Southwest History, and Ancestral Relations. Raquel assisted with the 450 Hurricane Katrina Evacuees in a medical capacity when they were bussed in to the El Paso Convention Center in August 2005. Years later, after having relocated to the Atlanta Metro Area, her and her family flew in to El Paso to assist and participate in the El Paso Strong "Author Book- Signing Event" on Sept. 16, 2019, sponsored by Barnes and Noble Book Sellers at The Fountains at Farah. All sales and proceeds from the book signing of her books, Sandstorms and Sunsets, and 13 Cornfield Road, were donated to help the victim's families, and children of the tragic and fatal, Walmart shooting. Raquel has five published books, with the most recent one being, Paradise Quilt- an autobiography, available through Amazon.com and is a strong supporter of the IMoA (International Museum of Art) in El Paso, TX. As of 2021, Raquel resides in her beloved southwest city of El Paso, enjoying life alongside her husband of 42 eventful, wonderfully busy years.
