Ray's Story
Life
Currently loving life as a husband to Cecilia and father of Julia and Faith. I hold down a full-time job with Red McCombs (Accounting) in my spare time. I love spending time with my family, I enjoy seeing friends, motorcycling (sportbikes), listening to good music (still love Rush)and watching movies.
After HS, went to A&M for Chemical Engineering. Thanks to certain roommates (Glen, Carl,& Jeff) the only chemical engineering I experienced was with blenders, beer bottles, etc.
After one year, came back to SA to figure out life, started working and going to school part time. Eventually hunkered down and earned BBA Accounting from UTSA, May 1989
Jumped straight into Public Accounting with Arthur Young (now E&Y) and met the woman I married, Cecilia. I went to Gunn Auto Group as accountant/auditor, Feb. 1992. Cecilia and I married Aug. 1992.
Cecilia and I were blessed with Julia in Dec 1998. Julia's birth was immediately followed by lay-off by Gunn, March 1999. Started SBC May 1999 and saw how a large company can chew people up and spit them out. Blessed with our second daughter, Faith, in Apr 2002...Expand for more
. It's so much fun watching Julia and Faith bond!
Started with Red McCombs as assistant controller in March 2005.
College
I left SA to attend Texas A&M and earn a degree in Chemical Engineering. Well, I did a lot of chemical engineering to my own body, but rarely attended class. After a year of trial and error, I returned to SA to regroup, earn some money, and discern my future. I began working full time and going to SAC on a part-time basis. After a year and a half at SAC, I clearly exhibitied interest and aptitude for Finance and Accounting. I enrolled at UTSA in Spring of '86 and soon found myself in the throws of an Accounting degree, graduating in Spring '89.
Workplace
Don't read too much into the canned answers. I enjoy what I do, applying my skill-set to benefit an organization. But this is a job, a means to an end. It helps me fulfill my priority of providing for my family. What would I do if I really followed my heart and passion? One or both of the following: I love motorsports, particularly motorcycle roadracing. I also would like to provide care for injured/abandoned animals.
