Raymond's Story
Since writing the content below, I've moved to Haleyville, Alabama which is a very small town in NW Alabama. The Harvest/Huntsville area was getting too large and we were starting to see traffic jams so we found a beautiful home, owned by a 95 year old lady, in a small town of 5000, The house was on the market for years since no one is moving to small towns in Alabama. Strange thing is we have found some of the best food in all of Alabama and Corpus Christi, TX. However no place beats Gringo's Restaurants in the Houston area.

After a short stint as a high school teacher at Sam Rayburn, I started teaching chemistry at the south campus of San Jacinto College and this is where I met my current wife (no children from a former marriage). She was a nursing instructor and for me at least, it was love at first sight. Who would not be attracted to a tall, slim and beautiful redhead from Florida? Of course neither one of us are as slim as we were when we were younger forty-four years ago.
My son and daughter were born rather late in life, compared to most of my friends, for I was not ready when I was younger to devote the necessary time and energy to do a good job of raising them. I can say that I do not regret the decision because I loved every day of their upbringing. Due to my flexible schedule at the college, I was the one to drop them off at school or wherever and I also picked them up. Being their coac...Expand for more
h in most of the sports activities was demanding but sharing with them the thrill of victory and the agony of defeat (sorry for using that phrase) created many memorable moments. My son graduated from A&M with a degree in finance and he has a very well-paying job and my daughter graduated from U of H and she teaches second grade in Pearland ISD.
My spare time is spent saltwater fishing, kayaking and enjoying my large dogs (currently a mastiff and a boxer). I wrote two books on kayak fishing along the coast of Texas and I am always amazed when I look on Amazon and see that the out of print editions sell around $100 and $200. Clearly someone has more money than brains but I sure wish I had saved a few books from the early editions.
I have lived in Friendswood most of the time after graduating from college but we moved to Corpus for a few years after retiring. My wife and I grew tired of the hot Texas summers so we next moved to North Alabama in 2014 and while I miss my friends and saltwater fishing, I love it here. We are in the foothills of the Appalachian mountains and the weather is mild year round (and no mosquitoes). It usually snows once or twice a year and this year in August, we have had only two or three days in the nineties.
It seems that the older I get the more nostalgic I am and I really miss old friends and family members who are no longer here. I hope to see many of you if there is another reunion. God bless and take care.
