Ray's Story
After high school, Ray joined the U.S. Air Force and worked as a Inflight Refueling System Repairman on KC-135 tankers and B-52 Bombers for 4 years and 9 months at Castle AFB in Merced, CA and at Travis AFB in Fairfield, CA. While in the Air Force, Ray was sent TDY to Alaska, Japan, Hawaii, Guam, Thailand, Okinawa, Texas, Nevada and Kansas. After the Air Force, Ray went to work in Japan at Misawa Air Force Base as a civilian aircraft mechanic for 1 year for the Dynalectron Corporation out of Fort Worth, Texas. After returning from Japan, Ray worked as a flower grower, growing, selling and shipping 7 acres of Chrysanthemums for Takahashi Farms out of greenhouses in Carpinteria, CA. Ray sold for Ball for 3 years, and then represented the Vaughan Jacklin Corperation out of Downers Grove, IL for 9 years and currently represents Mid Atlantic Plant Company out of Wilmington, Deleware for 32 years. Ray traveled to Florida, Ohio, Oregon, Washington, Hawaii, Guatemala, Costa Rica, Honduras, Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic to visit his suppliers during his work as a plant broker. Ray lives in Southern California, and is self employed as a horticultural broker selling starter plants for use in landscaping, house plants and cut flowers to wholesale nurseries. Ray used to go on the road from Paso Robles to San Diego and also to Arizona and Hawaii for over 20 years but has been working from home since 1993. Ray is 73 years old and is planning on retiring on January 1, 2017.
