Family:
I was married to a woman from 1974 to 1986, with whom I had 3 children, Greg (35), Kelly (31) & Randy (28). Kelly is the only one who is married. None have had or wants kids. They all live in the Portland Oregon area.
I then married my current wife, Pam in 1996. She has two daughters who both are married with two sons each. One lives in the Portland area with sons (1 & 3). The other lives in the Bend Oregon area with sons (12 & 14).
Work & School:
I spent 4 years in the Navy (68-72). Then 4 years at TG&E. Moved to Portland Oregon in 1976. Got a 2 year degree from Mt. Hood CC. Worked 4 years at NCR Corp as a customer service rep. Then 10 years at FPS Computing as a test engineer. Then another 10 years at Intel as a design engineer. All this time I continued to take classes.
Winding down:
In September of 2000 I got a sabbatical from Intel. Pam and I had a little motor home at the time and we traveled for 6 weeks. During those travels I discovered that I did not like working as much as I had thought that I did. I also got 2 of the best pieces of advice that I have ever gotten. The first came from my brother (a senior VP at AG Edwards) and that was to get out of the stock market. That turned out to have been pretty good timi...Expand for more
ng. The next came less than a week later and that was from some friends that had retired 10 years earlier. That advice was ¿retire as early as you can as you don¿t know how long your health will hold up¿.
Retirement:
June 28, 2002 was both of ours last day of work. We started out traveling full time in our 5th wheel trailer. We did this for almost 5 years. We then bought a mobile home in Tucson Estates. Then we bought another mobile home in central Oregon on an acre of wooded land (just South of Bend). These were 2 locations that we were spending most of our time at.
Our life:
We spend our time in Oregon hiking, visiting friends and relatives especially with the 2 grandsons in Bend. I have been doing genealogy and hand splitting firewood for exercise (I have a lot of wood to split). In Tucson I have a motorcycle (Goldwing) that we take on short trips, we hike, swim and play golf. Then during the winter (Jan ¿ Feb) we spend our time on the beach South of Puerto Vallarta where we kayak, swim, snorkel and play volleyball.
We also continue traveling. Last summer in Oregon we took the motorcycle on a two-week trip to visit friends in BC Canada. We took another trip with the 2 oldest grandsons to Yellowstone and a couple water parks. When after we got back down to Tucson we took a trip to Illinois via Missouri on highway 60. We came back by first going down through Kentucky and Tennessee.
