Ray's Story
Back in the day, I was known as Ray Bentley, my stepfather's surname. Life has been very good, with just a few periodic bumps in the road. I left Ceres for Chapman College, but after only one semester I decided I needed to do some growing up. Left school to spend three years in the Army, including two tours in Vietnam. A friend from the Army talked me into going to San Diego State University after we returned to civilian life. Been living in San Diego ever since. Started at a packaging company almost the day I arrived in San Diego; stayed there 27 years. A divorce in 1993, after nearly 20 years of marriage, caused me to take a new look at my life. Began law school, graduating and passing the bar in 1998. Left the packaging company for a full-time law career in early 2000. Semi-retired in 2012, and planning on fully retiring at the end of this year (2014)...Expand for more
. Remarried to a wonderful lady, Terri, in 1995. We each had three kids. Lost my youngest boy in 2011 (which encouraged me to semi-retire to spend more time with the family), but we still have five great kids and nine grandchildren (number 10 is due July 4th). We like to travel and stay active. Terri and I play together in tennis leagues, and we bicycled from Oregon to Maine in 2013 with my sister, Margie Machado, who still lives in Hughson. We are bicycling around Scotland this September and will do the cross country ride again in 2016 (San Francisco to Virginia, this time). Terri and I celebrate our 20 year anniversary next year. We are renewing our vows in Scotland, followed by a river cruise from Amsterdam to Budapest. As I said, life is good. Hope to make it to this year's reunion. I think the last one I attended was 1979. 'Bout time, I guess.
